Giants Fall to Shox In Tiebreaker |
June 19, 2013 - A back-and-forth game between the Giants and the Andover Shox ended in walk-off fashion for the Shox in a 13-12 victory over the Giants. The boys got started on the right track in the 1st as Kelton Simkins doubled down the left field line before Nolan Schoenhofer ripped the next pitch into right centerfield and 4 pitches into the game the boys led 1-0. Weston Murrow then reached on catcher's interference before a popout and a lineout. Cole Caraway walked to load the bases and it looked like Garrison Norris was gonna break the inning open when he lined one up the middle but it was snagged on a nice play by the Shox' 2nd baseman to end the inning. Nolan then took the mound and had control troubles right away. He started with a walk before getting a popout to Graeson Benefiel at 3rd. A hit batter preceeded a single and two more hit batters to score 2 runs. After a strikeout, a single plated two more before Koy Willms caught a base stealer at 3rd to end the threat down 4-1.

Giants Comeback In Two Games to Win Hutch Title |
June 16, 2013 - In an extremely evenly-matched tournament the Giants found just enough of everything to win the Salt City Shootout Sunday and send all the Fathers home happy on Father's Day. The team had to recover from a 5-run deficit against the Midwest Yankees in the semifinals to win 9-8 before coming back from a 4-3 deficit in the championship game vs Competitive Edge to win in 9 innings 5-4. The day started with the semifinal game against the Midwest Yankees from Manhattan. Graeson Benefiel was on the mound and had a rough start as the game's first batter reached due to an error before a fielder's choice out and three consecutive singles plated two. Another error at 3rd allowed two more to score before Graeson got groundouts to Brayden Payne and Jarrett Bowman to keep it at 4-0. Kelton Simkins then started the offense with a shot to left field before Nolan Schoenhofer roped one to centerfield. Two popouts threatened to squash the rally, but Koy Willms doubled to left center to plate Kelton before a popout ended the inning at 4-1.

Giants Win Two in Pool Play For #1 Seed in Hutch |
June 15, 2013 - The Giants used great pitching and defense for most of the day today to go 2-0 in pool play and grab the #1 seed for tomorrow's bracket play in the Salt City Shootout by beating the Midwest Yankees 2-1 and the Advanced Baseball Academy 9-7. In the opener, the boys went quietly in their at-bat but Koy Willms pitched his way through a 1-2-3 inning of his own to keep it scoreless. Over the next two innings, both teams would get base runners but strikeouts would kill each threat. Brayden Payne and Cole Caraway had hard hits during that time for the Giants but were both stranded. Koy pitched strongly as he struck out 4 in critical spots.

Errors & Poor Hitting Do In Giants Again |
June 13, 2013 - Things were going well.....through 3 innings the Giants had outplayed the Reds (A) and were leading 1-0. Had it not been for an unlucky bases-loaded lineout double play in the 1st, the lead would have probably been 3 runs or more. Good pitching and defense was shutting the Reds down and then.........the top of the 4th came along and it all went away in a 9-1 loss. Nolan Schoenhofer started the game on the mound and worked quickly through the Reds after giving up a leadoff single as he got a strikeout and two groundouts to Brayden Payne to bring the boys up to bat. Jarrett Bowman then worked a walk before Nolan did the same. After a fielder's choice out, Brayden ripped one to center to plate Jarrett. After Koy Willms walked to load the bases, Colten Richardson smoked one down the 3rd base line that was snagged by the 3rd baseman who's momentum took him right toward Weston Murrow to tag him out for the double play.
