Giants Finish Colwich Classic Strong |
May 12, 2013 - The Giants worked out a little bit of frustration today as they pounded out 12 hits and dominated the Southwest Hitters in Colwich by a score of 11-3. Koy Willms got the team off on the right foot as he roped one to left field before stealing two bases. Nolan Schoenhofer then reached on an error to score Koy before stealing a base of his own. Brayden Payne then stepped up and smoked one to right centerfield to easily score Nolan for a 2-0 lead. After a steal and a wild pitch, Brayden also scored on a passed ball. The rally kept going as Weston Murrow singled to right field before Jarrett Bowman walked, but a rally-killing lineout to 1st base resulted in a double play before a strikeout ended the inning with the boys up 3. Graeson Benefiel started on the mound and worked a tough leadoff batter to eventually get him to fly out to Garrison Norris in centerfield. After a single and a walk, Garrison caught another fly ball and Jarrett snagged a pop up to 1st to keep the lead at 3-0.

Giants Have Mixed Results In First Day of Colwich Classic |
May 11, 2013 - The first day of the Colwich Classic started out promising but ended with a thud as the boys beat the Kansas Blue Sox 6-1 before losing to the Kansas Jaguars 6-1. In the opener, Nolan Schoenhofer singled on the infield with 2 outs in the 1st before Weston Murrow smoked a double down the 3rd base line to plate him but a walk, a throwing error, and a wild pitch from Brayden Payne allowed the Sox to tie it up after 1. The boys kept the bats going in the 2nd as Jarrett Bowman walked with one out before stealing two bases. After a groundout to the pitcher, Colten Richardson roped one to right field to score Jarrett for the lead. After a pickoff throwing error, Trey Smith walked and Cole Caraway roped a hard double to left field to score Colten and Trey to give the team a 4-1 lead. Brayden then worked quickly in the 2nd by getting two strikeouts before a walk and a popout to the mound to keep the 3-run lead.

There Are No Ties in Baseball, Right? |
May 10, 2013 - The Giants and their big rival Andover Dirt Dawgs played to a 9-9 tie Friday night at Westurban. In the 1st inning, Jarrett Bowman reached on an error before Brayden Payned singled with 1 out. They moved to 2nd and 3rd on a groundout but a lineout to 1st base ended the threat. Graeson Benefiel started his solid time on the mound by only giving up a single before getting a groundout, a strikeout, and a flyout to Garrison Norris in left to keep the game scoreless. The Giants 2nd went quickly as three quick strikeouts sent them back to the field, but Graeson once again worked around a base runner to get a popout to Brayden and two groundouts to Nolan Schoenhofer at 3rd.
