Pitching & Defense Help Giants Hold On |
|
May 23, 2012 - Things were shaky in the beginning of the Giants' 8-5 victory over the Wichita cubs tonight, but in the latter innings their pitching and defense clamped down to secure the win. Weston Murrow took the bump to start things off and got a strikeout right away, but a long triple to left centerfield set up a sequence where the Giants made errors on three consecutive plays to plate two runs for the Cubs. Weston fought back though and got two strikeouts to close the inning. Koy Willms started the Giants' half with a walk and Kelton Simkins and Brayden Payne walked also. Koy then scored on a wild pitch before Weston singled to plate Kelton. A double steal helped Brayden score and later in the inning Colten Richardson bunted in Weston to give the boys a 4-2 lead after one.

Giants Close Augusta Tourney With a Hard-Fought Win |

May 20, 2012 - The Wichita Giants had to gut one out this morning against the Augusta Orioles but did so with a comeback in the final inning to win 6-5. In the Giants' half, Brayden got a 2-out single on the infield, stole 2nd and went to 3rd on a wild pitch, but after Garrison Norris walked, a popout in the infield ended the inning.

Giants Salvage a Split In Augusta |
|
May 19, 2012 - Due to the format of the Augusta Baseball Tournament, every game would be a must-win and a late collapse defensively cost the Giants the chance at a perfect day as they lost to the Andover Dirt Dawgs 7-6. They rebounded nicely to pound the Mulvane Jaguars though by an 11-0 score. In the first game, Jarrett Bowman got things going for the Giants with a 1-out liner to centerfield. After a steal and a walk to Brayden Payne, a popout threatened the inning but Garrison Norris reached on an error that scored Jarrett. Brayden and Garrison then pulled off a double steal to make the score 2-0.

May 18, 2012 - The Giants 12-year-olds are growing up. Not just physically, but mentally as well.....on the baseball field.....and it's fun to watch. Playing against the Andover Dirt Dawgs team that snuck by them 10-9 in the opening tourney in late March at Southwest Boys Club, the Giants returned the favor and beat the Dawgs 8-7 in 8 innings to claim sole possession of first place in the league. Koy Willms took the bump to start the game and pitched a terrific game starting with a flyout to Garrison Norris in left and a strikeout. A triple to deep centerfield and a single up the middle gave the Dawgs a 1-0 lead but another strikeout ended the threat.
